Initial cleanups and bug-fixes

* Bug #16: Extra line is seen after every enter
* Bug #17: No telnet option processing is done
* Bug #18: menu interpreter cannot handle receiving CR LF
* Bug #30: Some clients still cause two lines to be seen by the serial device
