Improve pmlogextract behaviour in the presence of metric descriptors which
have changed semantics part way through the archive (e.g. size changes from
32 to 64 bit, type changes from counter to instantaneous, etc). Also added a
desperate mode (-d option) to pmlogextract to allow the partially constructed
output archive to be kept for further debugging.
In addition, this includes some general code cleanup in pmlogextract removing
dead code and improving error handling.
